Simulacra magic, or the magic of employing objects that bear a "resemblance" to something in the outer world, is frequently used in voodoo to create an effect in the outer world.

How to Conjure More Powerful Voodoo Spells

However, there are a variety of reasons why simulacra magic does not function as well as it should. Generally, there are three reasons why simulacra magic does not accomplish the desired effect.
1. The Voodoo Object Is Insufficiently Similar to the Genuine Article
As the name implies, simulacra magic requires that the object utilized in the spell be as "same" as the object of the spell as feasible. If, for example, you're planning to use a simulacrum in a map spell to evict a nasty neighbor from your neighborhood, your best bet is to choose a "voodoo doll" that is as physically and psychologically identical to your neighbor as possible. If your neighbor is tall, gaunt, and hunched, choose a figurine that is similarly tall, haggard, and hunched. A short fat figurine, or a ballerina figurine, will not work. It never ceases to surprise me how many individuals will use any old figurine for a voodoo spell. 2. The Voodoo Doll or Object's Material Will Not Accommodate a Key
"Keying" is the magical process of associating the object of a simulacra spell with the real-world object it represents. For example, in the map spell, keying refers to the procedure of connecting the figurine to your wicked neighbor. After selecting a figurine that closely resembles your neighbor in appearance and personality, you must ensure that the figurine is constructed from a material that will retain the "key," or connection to the real-world person.
Wood, metal, glass, and ceramic all work nicely. The majority of plastics, rubbers, and contemporary composites do not have a key. If you wish to cast more powerful voodoo spells, ensure that your voodoo doll or object is constructed of the appropriate materials. You can key a figurine for the majority of easy voodoo magic spells simply by holding it in your dominant hand and flowing energy into it while you think about the individual. 3. No Cleansing of the Voodoo Doll or Object
